Each Sumitomo excavator integrates precision hydraulic controls, fuel-optimized engine management, and reinforced structural integrity.

Japanese Precision in Every Hydraulic Circuit

Sumitomo excavators are designed around our proprietary LEGEST hydraulic system — delivering precise load-sensing control that matches hydraulic flow to operator demand in real time. The result: up to 15% lower fuel consumption per operating hour compared to conventional open-center systems, without sacrificing digging force or cycle speed.

  • LEGEST closed-center load-sensing hydraulic system (320 bar / 32 MPa)
  • Tier 4 Final / EU Stage V compliant diesel engines with DPF + SCR aftertreatment
  • X-frame undercarriage design for superior stability in hard digging
  • Pressurized ROPS/FOPS cab with low-vibration mounting system
  • Smart maintenance alert system with 2,000-hour service intervals

Deployed in the Most Demanding Sectors

Mining operations

Mining & Quarrying

High-tonnage excavators for overburden stripping, ore extraction, and pit development.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure

Crawler cranes and excavators for bridge, tunnel, and dam construction.

Demolition

Demolition

Specialized excavators with high-reach booms and hydraulic breaker attachments.

"We evaluated five excavator brands for our copper mine expansion. Sumitomo's SH350 delivered the highest breakout force-to-weight ratio and the lowest fuel consumption per BCM moved. After 8,000 hours, the undercarriage wear is tracking within manufacturer specifications — which is unusual for our abrasive ground conditions."

Frequently Asked Engineering Questions

Sumitomo excavators use a closed-center load-sensing hydraulic system operating at 320 bar (32 MPa) main relief pressure. This provides precise proportional control of all functions while minimising energy waste during partial-load operations.

Current production models comply with EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V emission regulations. Aftertreatment systems combine DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) for NOx reduction. Tier 3 / Stage IIIA variants remain available for markets without emission mandates.

Standard warranty covers the full machine for 12 months or 2,000 hours (whichever comes first). Extended warranty options are available up to 5 years / 10,000 hours covering powertrain, hydraulic system, or full-machine packages. Contact your dealer for details.

Sumitomo specializes in crawler excavators which offer lower ground pressure (typically 40–55 kPa), superior stability for deep digging, and better gradeability on soft terrain. For frequent road-travel applications, wheeled excavators may suit — our engineering team can advise on the trade-offs for your specific operation.
