Six Decades of Hydraulic Innovation
Sumitomo began manufacturing hydraulic excavators in 1962, drawing on the broader Sumitomo Group's century-long engineering heritage. Our dedicated R&D centre in Chiba Prefecture employs over 280 engineers focused exclusively on hydraulic system performance, structural fatigue analysis, and operator ergonomics.
Today, with 4,200 employees and 380,000 m² of ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturing capacity, we produce over 6,000 machines annually — shipped to construction, mining, and infrastructure projects in 85 countries. Our quality system extends from raw material specification through to final dynamometer testing: every machine is load-tested before leaving the production line.
